What is an apiary hive?

In nature, bees make their own hives. At an apiary, the beekeeper provides the bees with a hive. An apiary hive looks very different from the kind bees build for themselves.

The apiary hive opens easily so that the beekeeper can check the bees and reach the wax and honey.

Boxes and frames

The hive is made up of several boxes. Each box is filled with frames. The bees make their combs on the frames. The hive has two covers to keep out rain, snow, dirt, and animals.
