What is beeswax, or what does it originate from?
Beeswax is a substance secreted from eight wax glands located on the underneath or ventral part of a bee’s abdomen. It appears as tiny translucent white scales or oval shaped plates. The wax is produced from the food eaten by the bees, somewhat as a cow produces milk. During good honeyflow periods, when the bees are building new combs, the wax scales are easily seen on the underside of the young, producing bees.
